Description: This 5-day course will present to participants a range of attachment patterns and self-protective strategies utilised across the life-span. The course will highlight those developmental pathways which carry greater risk for emotional distress, interpersonal maladaptation, and psychopathology. The model used is the Dynamic-Maturation Model, Crittenden’s expansion of the Bowlby-Ainsworth model. This model is particularly relevant in relation to individuals in at-risk situations. The training course is demanding and at times challenging.
The course is structured developmentally and is didactic with opportunities for whole-group questions and discussion. Lectures are accompanied by audio-visual materials and there is some reading material provided.
Day 1: Attachment, the brain, and infancy Day 2: Preschool years Day 3: School-age Day 4: Adolescence and adulthood Day 5: Overview/review & psychopathology
Who for? Practitioners working with children, young people and their families within social work, education, health, clinical practice, therapeutic and residential settings as well as researchers and academics.
Clinicians will find that some common practice questions and new approaches are offered. Researchers will be presented with new hypotheses ripe for testing.
