Raising Children in today's society: Virtual Prisoners; young people in thrall to the internet

Evening Lecture and Discussion by John Woods - Thursday 26th November 2009, 8.00pm-10.00pm

In this talk John Woods will explore the increasing influence of the internet on young people’s lives which can be to the good, but often may be seen to be destructive to personality development.  In particular the excessive consumption of pornography can produce psychological and emotional damage, to the extent that the capacity for relationships is affected.  After a review of some of the evidence on the effects of this new phenomenon, some clinical work will be presented.

John Woods, is a Consultant Psychotherapist with both adults and young people at the Portman Clinic, London.   Clinical publications include;   Boys Who Have Abused; psychoanalytic psychotherapy with victims/perpetrators of sexual abuse London: Jessica Kingsley 2003     Several plays have also been produced, including  The End of Abuse   &   Compromise  both published by  Open Gate Press,
