Thursday 5th March 2009 from 4.00 to 6.00 pm
Since Daniel Goleman coined the term Emotional Intelligence in 1996 there has been an enormous surge in knowledge with regard to brain and behaviour.
More than a decade later, however, many professionals working with emotional and developmental disorders have very little detailed understanding of how the brain actually works and what this new knowledge is. In consequence, whilst there is a general awareness that knowledge about the brain is advancing rapidly, the uptake of that knowledge and its implications for practice is seriously lagging.
This session is an introduction to the structure and function of the brain, with an update on the basic emotions and how brain influences behaviour. It is aimed at professionals who have very little if any detailed working knowledge of the brain and might even interest some of those who have because of the implications for practice that the session also includes.
If there is sufficient demand following this session, CFED will organise a six-session professional development group in Brighton with Professor Brown to advance the application of the neurosciences within the helping professions.
This lecture should be of interest to professionals working within health, education and social services.
Tickets: £10
Venue: Brighthelm Community Centre
