ONE DAY CONFERENCE: 9.30am - 4.00pm Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton, East Sussex
Love them or hate them, organisations play a vital part in our lives. The aim of this conference is to try to address the big issues of organisational dynamics in order to think about, understand and best manage working within organisations. How does one manage change, and acknowledge and engage with diversity and difference? How does leadership affect organisational functioning and performance, and what role does the “ culture” of an organisation play in morale, motivation and communication with staff, as well as with other organisations across sectors? What makes for a ‘healthy’ organisation? Would you spot one if you saw one?
In order to address these issues we have brought together three very distinguished and internationally renowned thinkers in the field of organisational dynamics. There will also be time for questions and discussion within each session.
KEY NOTE PRESENTATIONS:
MANNIE SHER - Director of the Group Relations Programme and Principal Consultant for Organisational Development & Change at The Tavistock Institute, London.
ANGELA FOSTER - Social worker, psychoanalytic psychotherapist and lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic.
DAVID CAMPBELL - Clinical psychologist at the Tavistock Clinic, London.
Fees: £60.00 - £115.00 (exc VAT)
PLEASE NOTE - CHANGE OF SPEAKER
We are sorry to have to let you know that due to ill health, David Campbell will not be able to present at this conference. This is a great pity, however, we are very pleased to say that Phillip Stokoe has agreed to present in his place. We very fortunate that he has been able to do this at such short notice and he will be giving a presentation very much in line with David’s.
Philip Stokoe is Clinical Director of the Adult Department of the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust where he is also a Consultant Social Worker; he is a Psychoanalyst working with adults and couples and an Organisational Consultant providing consultation to a wide range of organisations in the helping professions, particularly the NHS, Social Services and Voluntary Agencies, and in business. He teaches and designs courses in the arena of the application of psychoanalysis and supervises individuals working with adults, couples and adolescents.
Philip will be presenting a model of a ‘Healthy Organisation’, which is essentially an exposition of the ‘Tavistock model’ of organisations. He will show how this traditionally diagnostic tool can be the fulcrum around which change can occur using the ‘Short Course Intervention’ which he created at the Tavistock and which has proved to be very successful. It operates on the interface between training and consultation and arose from the experience that the most dysfunctional systems frequently can’t use direct consultation because they simply don’t have a shared language. In Part 1, he will teach the model and part two will be an opportunity for the conference membership to bring their own preoccupations for discussion in the course of the afternoon. The whole afternoon will be interactive and he expects to create a temporary organisation in the conference that we can study together.
The title for Phillip’s presentation will be Creating change: towards a Healthy Organisation. Part 1 and Part 2.
