Emotional abuse and neglect - Harmful parent-child interactions
Tues 6th Dec 5.30 - 7.30pm by Dr Danya Glaser
Emotional abuse and neglect is an under-recognised, but actually common, form of child maltreatment. Professionals in the field continue to find difficulty in operationally defining emotional abuse and neglect, and experience uncertainty about proving it legally to ensure child protection. There are also questions about the least detrimental intervention and therapy. These difficulties have led to delays in recognition and protective intervention. Emotional abuse and neglect are defined as persistent harmful parent-child harmful interactions, requiring no physical contact with the child. Motivation to harm the child is not necessary for the definition.
